Malaysia Announcement
For several months, the World Sport Kite Championship Steering Committee
has been working with the Malaysian Organizers to finalize the 2000
competition. Details have arrived slowly.
Chairman Helmut Georgi has made weekly phone calls, and David Gomberg met
face-to-face with two organizers in Weifang China in April. In each case,
we were assured that progress was being made slowly, but that the event was
still scheduled.
Like many of you, our confidence has waned as the weeks passed. Finally, we
insisted on a deadline for concrete information. That date was 60 days
before the scheduled event.
Today we received informal notification that Malaysia 2000 will not go on
as re-scheduled. Rather than wait for something more formal, we have
decided to issue this cancellation notice.
The WSKC Committee, and the Malaysian organizers have worked hard to make
this event possible. Like you, we are disappointed in the outcome --
particularly since it comes too late for us to make other plans for 2000.
AJSKA, AKA, and STACK remain committed to organizing a world sport kite
championship in the near future. Thank you for your commitment to the
sport, and your patience and understanding with this unhappy news.
